Biography

Alessandro Mugelli, BSc, MD, FESC is Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Florence (Italy).

He has been Dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Florence (2001-2007), Director of the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology (2007-2013) and Chair of the Department of Neurosciences, Drug Research and Child Health at the University of Florence (2012-2016).

He has been Chairperson of the Working Group of Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology of the European Society of Cardiology (1998-2000 mandate), President of the Regional Pediatric Ethical Committee of Tuscany Region (2013-2020 and from July 2023 to present); Chair of the Section of Clinical Pharmacology of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (2007-2011) and President of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (2017-2019). 

He received the Leonardo Da Vinci Award of the Italian Society of Cardiology in 2011.

He has been a member of the Regional Ethics Committee of the Emilia Romagna Region since 2021, Speciality Chief Editor of Frontiers in Drug Safety and Regulation for the Section of Substance-based Medical Devices since 2021, and an advisor to the European Commission for medical devices since 2020.

He has co-authored over 260 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His main fields of interest are cardiac pharmacology and electrophysiology, pharmacoepidemiology, safety of drugs, natural substances and medical devices.
