Personal History
A native Texan, Dr Ann Marie Navar was born and raised in Corpus Christi. She is a Cardiologist, Epidemiologist and Associate Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center.4
Academic History
Dr Navar earned her medical degree at Duke University, followed by a PhD in global disease epidemiology and control at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (2009). She then completed a residency in internal medicine and paediatrics (2009 - 2013) a fellowship in cardiology (2013 - 2016) and a Research Fellowship at the Duke Clinical Research Institute.1
Her research interests include cardiovascular disease prevention and epidemiology, mining real-world data including information available in electronic health records and risk prediction and communication.1

Dr Navar is an associate professor in the departments of Internal Medicine and Population and Data Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical Center. A board-certified cardiologist, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020 and specialises in preventive cardiology.1
Her areas of expertise include risk prediction, patient risk communication, real-world data analysis using EHR- and claims-based datasets and registries.2
Dr Navar is involved with Doctors With Heart, which is an American Heart Association initiative to promote access to cardiology care in under-resourced communities.3
She serves as an associate editor of JAMA Cardiology and is a board member of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology. She is affiliated with the American College of Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American Heart Association and the American Society for Preventive Cardiology.1
