Personal History
Dr David Alan Baran is a Cardiologist from Parsippany, New Jersey. He is married and based in Norfolk, Virginia.
Academic History
In 1988, Dr Baran received his Bachelor’s (Hon) in Chemistry from Florida Atlantic University, followed by an M.D. from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in 1992. He finished his Residency at NY Presbyterian Hospital in 1995 and his Fellowships at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Ctr. in 1996, Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in 1998 and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Ctr. in 1999.1
Career Overview
Dr Baran is currently the System Director for Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation at Sentara Healthcare, where he leads a team of heart failure and mechanical circulatory support experts.2
He was previously at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for seventeen years as Director of Heart Failure and Transplant Research. He is also affiliated with Community Medical Center and The Valley Hospital.
Dr Baran is very involved in clinical research, having a particular interest in transplant immunosuppression and the management of cardiogenic shock including device therapies.2 His research consists of co-authoring 83 peer-reviewed articles and participating in 7 clinical trials in the past 15 years.3
