Dr Ingrid Dumitriu works at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Birmingham, which she joined in 2020 as a Reader in Cardiovascular Immunology.

Career Overview

Prior to her current role at University of Birmingham, she was a reader at St. George's University of London, leading the cardiovascular Immunology research group in the Cardiology Clinical Academic Group, Molecular, and Clinical Sciences Research Institute. Dr Dimitriu was also a postdoctoral research fellow at Imperial College London and the MRC Centre for Inflammation Research, University of Edinburgh.

As part of her research work, Dr Dimitriu has extensively analysed the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in sustaining inflammation in cardiovascular disease. Her research group focuses on gaining an in-depth understanding of the role of inflammation and immune cells in atherosclerosis and atrial fibrillation. This with the aim of developing specific immunomodulation therapeutic strategies to improve management and outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease.

She has also led presentations and conferences at different international scientific events.^1,2
