Biography

Dr Kennerly Patrick is a clinician educator in the Division of Nephrology at the VCU Medical Center, Richmond, US

He earned his medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Carolinas Campus in 2017, followed by an Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology fellowship at VCU Health. During his fellowship, Dr Patrick developed a strong interest in the kidney care of cancer patients, leading to the establishment of an Onconephrology clinic at VCU in 2022. In this role, he has gained extensive expertise in managing acute kidney disease in cancer patients, addressing immunotherapy-related kidney adverse events, cancer-related electrolyte disorders, chemotherapy nephrotoxicity, myeloma kidney and cancer-related glomerulonephritis.

Dr Patrick also specialises in home dialysis modalities, including home hemodialysis, nocturnal hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. He has developed a point-of-care ultrasound training programme for the VCU Nephrology Fellowship programme, enhancing the diagnosis and management of acute kidney disease in hospital settings. As a sub-investigator, Dr Patrick is involved in a multi-centre trial exploring PD catheter microbead therapy for treating hepatic encephalopathy and a clinical trial focused on immunosuppressive medications for lupus nephritis.

Outside of his professional work, Dr Patrick enjoys spending time as a singer-songwriter and traveling to the beach with his family.
