Laszlo Göbölös MD PhD serves as a cardiac surgeon in Heart & Vascular Institute, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. In his current position, besides the daily clinical routine, he is active in education and clinical research. He has contributed to establishing the heart transplant program at CCAD, the first in the United Arab Emirates. In addition, as a member of the robotic cardiosurgical program, he published outcomes, challenges and technical innovations internationally.
Prior to joining CCAD, he served at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Southampton University Hospital Trust, UK, and was a certified Educational Supervisor of Wessex Deanery (PGMDE). Besides clinical research, he has conducted audits to improve NHS services, education and patient safety.
He graduated “summa cum laude” at the University of Pécs (est. 1367), Hungary, and defended the MD thesis “Functional and biochemical changes following coronary occlusion and reperfusion in an experimental canine model” with excellent result. Furthermore, his PhD thesis “New techniques and principles in acute aortic pathologies requiring emergency surgical interventions” achieved outstanding rating in the accreditation process.
During the internship, he served in Hungary, Germany, Netherlands, Egypt. In addition, he completed specialist training in cardiac surgery in Hungary and Germany. In Regensburg, he was a team member in developing transport ECMO, artificial lung (PECLA) and minimal invasive extracorporeal circulation (MECC) therapies.
He was appointed as Assistant Professor at the University of Pécs, further as Clinical Associate Professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, USA. Dr Göbölös is Fellow of ACS, ESC, ACC and GHA. He received healthcare leadership and management certificates at Cornell University, USA.
He possesses an excellent track record of both basic scientific investigative- and clinical research; author and co-author of several book chapters and published in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he serves as an editorial board member, peer reviewer for cardiovascular journals and book publishers.
Dr László Göbölös is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology, published by Radcliffe Cardiology on behalf of the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology.
