Biography

Personal History

Dr Miguel Valderrabano is a Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist based in Houston, Texas. 

 

Academic History

 

In 1988, Dr Valderrábano was awarded his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Colegio San Estanislao de Kostka, Málaga, Spain.4

In 1994, he received his M.D. from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) School of Medicine in Madrid, Spain and did his Internal Medicine training at UCLA. He then completed his cardiology and electrophysiology training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was named Chief Cardiology fellow in 2002.1, 2

Dr Valderrábano’s research and clinical interests focus on finding new and more effective treatments for atrial fibrillation, including epicardial mapping and ablation.1

 

Career Overview

After his training at Cedars-Sinai, he was named Director of the Implanted Devices Clinic at the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCLA Medical Center. In 2006, he became the Director of the Division of Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Houston Methodist Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at Weil Cornell School of Medicine.1, 2, 3

His research has been funded by grants from the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In 2013, Dr Valderrábano received a multimillion dollar grant from the NIH to explore the efficacy and safety of a new alcohol infusion treatment for people with persistent atrial fibrillation.1, 2

Dr. Valderrábano is a member of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society.2
