Dr. Subha Raman is a cardiologist and physician-scientist at the Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health, joining in 2020 as Chief of Cardiology, Director of the Cardiovascular Institute, and VP for Cardiovascular Services. Through clinical, investigative, educational and administrative efforts, she is dedicated to those we serve and those who serve in heart & vascular patient care, research, and teaching.
She specialises in internal medicine cardiology with clinical and research interests in general clinical cardiology, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) and is affiliated with the James Cancer Hospital University Hospitals. Dr Raman was nominated North American Society for Cardiac Imaging (NASCI) Young Investigator prize in 2001 for Multislice Cardiac Computed Tomography: Identifying Mechanisms of Coronary Artery Disease. She has worked to advance cardiovascular magnetic resonance over nearly 2 decades, translating technical innovations to impact patient care.
In addition to her clinical work in both outpatient and inpatient cardiology, Dr. Raman maintains an active research program dedicated to earlier detection and improved outcomes in heart and vascular disease. Her interdisciplinary work addresses heart health in those with neuromuscular conditions, cardiometabolic risk, and myocardial inflammation. She also serves the broader communities of cardiovascular medicine and science through service to organizations such as the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
