Recruiting: ICR Editor-in-Chief

ICR CoverWe are seeking an Editor-in-Chief to lead the strategic development and growth of Interventional Cardiology Review (ICR). The candidate should be an interventional cardiologist, working in both a clinical and academic setting, that is highly motivated to advancing the field of interventional cardiology. ICR is an open access, peer reviewed journal publishing original research, review articles, case reports and editorials and is indexed in PubMed, Scopus, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

 

The Editor-in-Chief will be supported by two Deputy Editors (Peer Review) who will oversee the peer review for coronary and structural interventional cardiology and three Deputy Editors (Development) who will support on commissioning and the strategic development of the journal, in addition to the wider editorial board.

 

The responsibilities of the EiC will include:

  • Reviewing the Deputy Editor (Peer Review) decision recommendations along with the peer review comments and making the final decision on all articles.
  • In collaboration with the Managing Editor at Radcliffe, the EiC will lead monthly calls with the Deputy Editors and the annual editorial board meeting (virtually or in-person).
  • Agree and implement journal strategy plans in collaboration with Radcliffe.
  • Lead the editorial board to ensure they are fulfilling their responsibilities to the journal.

 

The journal will also be expanding its scope to include original research articles and as such will undergo some minor rebranding. The new EiC will play a key role in this aspect of the development of the journal, and as such this role requires an interventional cardiologist with a wealth of experience in writing and publishing academic research, strong connections within the community, and a collaborative approach to strategic journal development. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the strategy and development of an innovative journal that aims to assist time-pressured physicians to stay abreast of key advances and opinion in the area of interventional cardiology.

 

The ideal candidates will be clear communicators who work well as part of a team. They will have a solid understanding of interventional cardiology; a desire to improve connections between research and practice; experience of reviewing and editing processes; and an interest in ongoing developments within academic publishing. This post is a part-time three-year contract (current salary c. £8,000 per annum) and located at the holder’s host university or organisation, based remotely anywhere in the world.

Editor-in-Chief– Interventional Cardiology Review

Role and Responsibilities

 

The Editor-in-Chief will liaise with the Deputy Editors and Managing Editor (ME) to strategically develop the journal and commission, guide and approve content (the “Work”) being provided for and published in Interventional Cardiology Review (“Journal”).

 

The Editor-in-Chief responsibilities include:

 

  1. Provide strategic direction for the journal ensuring that the journal achieves development objectives resulting in the continued growth and editorial success.
  1. Work with the Managing Editor and Deputy Editors to identify key topics and potential authors who the EiC believes to be well-positioned to contribute to the journal, including potential content themes and areas that warrant special focus. The Managing Editor will seek to commission the articles as directed;
  1. Receiving training on using the journal’s online peer review site Editorial Manager to:
    1. Review the peer review comments and the Deputy Editors (Peer Review) decision recommendations and make the final decision for all content submitted to the journal
    2. Ensure papers accepted for inclusion in the Journal are of the highest possible standard and the Journal EiC agrees to act as a final arbiter of the content;
  1. Following the monthly calls and at regular intervals, the Managing Editor will provide the EiC a list of commissioning suggestions to review and approve. The EiC may provide any feedback and further suggestions regarding authorship /subject / scope;
  1. Provide 1 written contribution during the contract term;
  1. In collaboration with the Managing Editor at Radcliffe, the EiC will lead monthly calls with the Deputy Editors to discuss the current journal pipeline, ongoing commissioning activities and journal development strategies;
  1. In collaboration with the Managing Editor at Radcliffe lead the annual editorial board meeting (virtually or in-person) to discuss the journal's performance, identify development objectives and strategies to achieve the development objectives;
  1. Provide suggestions for new editorial board members to ensure that the journal’s editorial board remains active, international and diverse;
  1. Promoting their Editor-in-Chief position on related web platforms and social media, where appropriate;
  1. Acting as an advocate for the journal when attending international conferences and meetings;
  1. Radcliffe is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and subscribes to its principles on how to deal with acts of misconduct. The Coronary/Structural Deputy Editors must thereby adhere to the principles of COPE, committing to investigate allegations of misconduct and to ensure the integrity of research.

 

Communication and Obligations

 

Communication between the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editors and the Managing Editor will be mainly conducted by email and/or telephone/video calls. The EiC will lead the annual board meeting in collaboration with the Managing Editor at Radcliffe which will be held at a major international conference or in a virtual setting.

 


 

ICR - Aims and Scope

 

Interventional Cardiology Review (ICR) is an open access, international, English language, peer-reviewed journal. The journal aims to assist time-pressured physicians to stay abreast of key advances and opinion in interventional cardiology.

 

The journal comprises balanced and comprehensive review articles written by leading authorities, the latest original research, case reports and expert opinion pieces on key topics within interventional cardiology. It provides updates on a range of salient issues to support physicians in developing their knowledge and effectiveness in day-to-day clinical practice. The journal endeavours to support the continuous medical education of specialist and general cardiologists and disseminate knowledge of the field to the wider cardiovascular community.

 

The journal’s Editor-in-Chief is supported by an expert team of Deputy Editors. The team includes two Deputy Editors focusing on ensuring high quality, rigorous peer view that is delivered in a timely manner, and three Deputy Editors focusing on identifying key topics of interest to cover in the journal and attracting leading authors. The core editorial team also includes a Statistical Editor who reviews original research articles for scientific rigour and a Case Reports Editor. In addition, the journal’s wider editorial board includes world-renowned physicians from across the globe.
