Overview
This symposium, part of Transcatheter Interventions Online 2023, and chaired by Dr Didier Tchétché (Clinique Pasteur, Toulouse, FR), presented and discussed the importance of first valve selection. The faculty considered why the choice of the first valve matters in younger and lower-risk patients with longer life expectancy. They also showed how the technical refinements in implementation are going to play a positive role and presented a 'how-to' guide on how to select and treat bicuspid patients for positive clinical outcomes.
Learning Objectives
- Recall why valve choice matters for younger patients
- Review recent TAVI clinical data showing durability in younger patients
- Share experiences of incorporating the Cusp Overlap Technique into your practice
- Discuss how to optimise TAVI placement in bicuspid patients
Target Audience
- Interventional Cardiologists
- Surgeons with an interest in transcatheter treatment strategies for coronary and structural heart disease
- Interventional Cardiology Nurses

Part 2
Considerations for First Valve Implantation
Dr Kendra Grubb presents considerations for the first valve implantation by introducing a patient case study and by discussing data released in recent trials.
Part 3
Valve Placement: Right Place, Every Time!
Dr Amat-Santos dives into the technical aspects of the TAVI procedures. He will examine how TAVI implantation has been improved in recent years, by looking at two specific techniques, cusp overlap technique and commissural alignment.
Part 4
Managing Bicuspid Patients and Optimising Outcomes
Dr Mylotte presents on how to optimise outcomes of TAVI in aortic bicuspid patients. He looks at the challenges and strategies adapted for bicuspid patients.
