The new 2022 AHA/ACC/HFSA Guideline for the Management of Heart Failure have now been presented at the recent ACC Scientific sessions. In this short interview, Dr Harriette Van Spall (McMaster University, Hamilton, CA) and Dr Mikhail Kosiborod (Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, Kansas City, MO, US) summarise some of the key changes in guidance, discuss the importance of initiating guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) as early as possible, and strategize how GDMT could be initiated for all.
