Dr Mirvat Alasnag (The King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital, Jeddah, SA) is joined by Dr David J Cohen (St Francis Hospital, Roslyn, NY, US) and Dr Michael Mack (Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital, Plano, TX, US) to share their insights on how guidelines are constructed and elaborated.

Dr Mack summarises the process behind putting together a guideline committee and the work they do. Dr Cohen highlights the challenges of the selection process and compares the European and US guidelines. They discuss the current needs and gaps in practice.
